This EuroArts DVD release recreates the beauty and atmosphere of the ballroom performances of 19th century Vienna. In the wonderful setting of the Hofburg Vienna, the period instruments orchestra Wiener Akademie plays Strauss Family favorites including "Blue Danube Waltz" and "Tritsch Tratsch Polka." The spirit of the Strauss era is illustrated by dance performances in historical costumes. The Strauss family kept Vienna and much of the rest of the world dancing for over a hundred years. The included docudrama explores the origins of the waltz--the music, the dance steps, the ballrooms, the costumes--and at the same time narrates the drama of the two great Waltz composers, a bitter conflict between a father and a son.
